Carmel music in full swing

Term 3 has been a busy time for music at Carmel College, with students taking part in several festivals and performances across Auckland.

Junior Treble Voices Festival

For the second year, our Year 7 and 8 singers in Carmonics took part in the Junior Treble Voices Festival. Conducted by Mrs Mandy Verdonk and accompanied by Whaea Kelly, Carmonics enjoyed three workshops with leading choral clinicians, learnt a waiata, and rehearsed massed choir items alongside singers from nine other schools. The day concluded with an afternoon concert for parents.

Carmel Annual Music Showcase

On Thursday 6 August, more than 250 whānau, friends and Carmel old girls attended Carmel’s Annual Music Showcase, celebrating the musical talent within the college. Nearly 120 students performed across our ensembles, showcasing their skills and development. A highlight was the Year 7 band’s first-ever performance, providing our younger students with a new opportunity to develop their musical skills and become involved in the Carmel music department.

KBB Music Festival

The annual KBB Music Festival provided another highlight for our instrumental musicians. Three Carmel ensembles took part: the Carmel Orchestra, conducted by Mrs Bev Brockelbank; the Carmel Jazz Band, directed by HOD Music Ms Hayley Barker; and the Carmel String Ensemble, conducted by Mr Robert Lovie. All three groups delivered engaging performances, reflecting the hard work and commitment of our students.

A huge thank you to our music directors, teachers and students for the time, energy and passion they continue to bring to music at Carmel.
