Rosmini College had three ensembles showcase their talent at this year’s KBB Music Festival: the String Ensemble, Big Band, and Concert Band. All three groups delivered fantastic performances and enjoyed supporting fellow student musicians from schools across Auckland.
The Rosmini Big Band took home a bronze award for the second year running, while both the String Ensemble and Concert Band earned highly commended recognition. Special mention goes to the six Rosmini students (pictured) selected for the prestigious KBB Honours Programme, who capped off the week with a superb performance on Friday evening at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Culture celebrated at Rosmini
Rosmini College recently celebrated its diverse community through four cultural events centred on identity, tradition, and connection.
Matariki Herenga Waka brought Māori students and families together for a morning gathering featuring a shared breakfast, a local history presentation on Takapuna landmarks by Pani Paora Chamberlin, a Kahoot quiz, and a traditional lunchtime hāngī. The school also marked Cook Islands Language Week, where the Pasifika Komiti led students through the traditional preparation and deep-frying process for pāni ēkoko (donuts). During Filipino Language Week students enjoyed daily lunchtime activities, including a karaoke jam, crafting and playing the traditional kick-game SIPA, a cultural trivia Kahoot, and a salu-salo feast supported by families sharing traditional dishes. Finally, Tongan Language Week was observed with daily prayers spoken in Tongan and a special lunch featuring guest speaker league star Duane Mann, with all four events highlighting cultural pride and a sense of belonging across the school.
Rosmini triumphs at regional AI Hackathon
A group of 15 Rosmini College students recently competed in the AI Forum NZ 'AI for Good' Hackathon Festival at Unitec Mt Albert. As the only secondary school students among more than 120 university and industry participants, the boys quickly found their feet, collaborating, coding, and refining their prototypes over an intensive 48 hours. By the final pitch session the students delivered clear, confident presentations alongside their adult teammates. Special congratulations to team SchoolFuel, which won first place overall. Composed of six Rosmini Year 13 students and two adult teammates, the team developed an app connecting schools with business funding partners. The judges praised the simple concept and strong execution.
Victory in tough challenge
Grit, brotherhood, and determination were on display as a team of Rosmini students took on the Secondary Schools Tough Guy & Gal Challenge in Kumeu: a 6km mud obstacle course against 828 competitors. Congratulations to the Year 11 squad who took first place out of 22 teams to bring home the trophy!
