More than $20,000 was raised for Takapuna Grammar School at a hugely successful Comedy Night mc’d by acclaimed comedian Nick Rado. Organised by the PTA and proudly sponsored by Michael Swarbrick of Cooper & Co, the evening included an outstanding lineup of New Zealand comedians. Pax Assadi, Rhys Mathewson and Ocean Denham entertained the crowd with a night of laughs and memorable performances, and head boy Nathan Fry also performed.

Adding to the fundraising success, local auctioneer and TGS alumnus Sam Walmsley drummed up enthusiastic bidding on a range of generously donated items, including artwork, holiday packages, products and services from the wider community. Funds raised will support the PTA’s ongoing contribution to the school. Over the years, the PTA has helped deliver significant projects, including enhancements to the Sir Stephen Tindall swimming pool and upgrades to outdoor student spaces. Current fundraising has helped with heating and cooling systems for the Special Education department and equipment for the new sports and conditioning gym.

TGS climbers win historic school trophy

Takapuna Grammar School has won the Auckland College Climbing Series School Trophy for the first time, finishing ahead of 52 other schools in a record-breaking year of competition. The series saw 53 schools compete across four rounds of top-rope and bouldering events. TGS claimed the overall title, ahead of Westlake Girls' High School and Macleans College, bringing the coveted shield home for the first time. Several TGS climbers also achieved outstanding individual results, including silver medals for Leo Goffinet (Senior Boys) and Juliette Goffinet (Junior Girls), and a bronze medal for Paige Horn (Senior Girls).The win reflects the strength and growth of the relatively new TGS climbing programme.

Merit Awards praise commitment and skill outside the classroom

The time students dedicate to sports, service activities and events outside the classroom has been acknowledged at the recent Merit Awards ceremony. More than 200 students were presented badges at the formal assembly attended by caregivers. Students were commended for service to sports such as coaching or leading a team, arranging school events and mentoring younger students through peer service. Principal Mary Nixon said the students were honoured for their talent, commitment, service and contribution to the school. “Wear your badge with pride and know that through your efforts you make a difference to our school and community and ultimately the whole world.”
