How Clean for Good is raising the standard of home cleaning

What began in Devonport six years ago has become a North Shore business built around professional employment, better systems and the belief that cleaning can do more good.

Clean for Good began in Devonport in 2020 with a simple idea: a cleaning company should care just as much about the people doing the cleaning as it does about the homes being cleaned.

For founder Stephanie Ray, turning that idea into a real business meant questioning many of the practices the cleaning industry had accepted for years. Instead of relying on cleaning contractors, Clean for Good employs its cleaners directly. Team members receive professional training, paid leave, sick leave and wellbeing support, with clear systems behind every service.

That structure gives clients something especially important when allowing people into their homes: consistency and accountability. Clients know who is arriving, how they have been trained and who is responsible if something goes wrong. That same solve-it-properly approach has shaped the company’s growth. In six years, Clean for Good has cleaned more than 2,000 local homes, opened offices in Devonport and Milford and earned more than 200 five-star Google reviews.

Growth has not changed its local focus. Through 'Marketing for Good', the business continues to support schools, community organisations and local families. The next chapter is helping more North Shore families without losing the care that built the business.

That willingness to question accepted industry practices did not stop with employment. The products were the next problem Clean for Good wanted to solve properly. After years of trying supposedly non-toxic and eco-friendly products, the company still could not find anything that gave its teams professional results without harsh chemicals. Rather than accept the compromise, it developed its own.

The Cleaning Enzymes is not simply another 'green' range. It uses enzyme science to break down the organic matter behind grease, grime and odours, an effective system designed to be safer for families, cleaners and the environment. Created first for Clean for Good’s own teams, it has since grown into a successful New Zealand brand sold online and through local retailers.

"We want to grow, but never at the expense of doing things properly. That will always come first." - Stephanie Ray, founder.
